About

Maya Khalil is a Creative Technologist and Visual Artist. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design with a focus on Motion Graphics and soon an MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts.

Khalil has worked with numerous clients in the digital marketing and tech space including Apple, HP and Cartier. Her work has been shown in multiple animation festivals like Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival and has won multiple awards for her motion work.

Due to her love for problem-solving and accessibility, Khalil started exploring development and prototyping and is now combining her creative expertise with her technical skills to build custom user-friendly pipelines for real-time workflows and virtual production.

Projects

Twin Ctrl

Two LED instruments that find each other. Apart, each one plays on its own. Snap them together and they become one audio-reactive instrument.

Arctos rebuild

A six-axis robot arm, rebuilt closed loop. Every joint knows where it is, so motion I design can play back on a real machine. The drawing is made live from the official Arctos model.

Multivox

A swept-volume display. Two LED panels spin back to back fast enough that light hangs in the air as voxels you can walk around. My build of James Brown’s open-source Multivox, the Vortex version.

RICO Engine

A real-time engine that runs on its own or as the bridge between creative tools. It routes and translates every signal a live setup uses, listens to sound, makes visuals in its own workspace, maps them onto surfaces and prepares jobs for the 3D printer and the laser, all in one portable app that works offline. The Signal output on the home page comes from its visual workspace.

RICO website

The home of RICO, Real-time Integration Control Operations. It shows what RICO connects, module by module with real uses for each, walks through the three steps from plugging in to performing, tells the story of the Phantom Performer installation and hands you the download. A green and black terminal look with live WebGL graphics, built from scratch.

MIDI Telecaster

An analog Telecaster turned into a MIDI and OSC controller. Every string has its own pickup at the bridge, so each one is read on its own, while the normal guitar signal stays untouched.
